KFON is Kerala Fiber Optic Network. It is not a phone. The government provides the fibre network infrastructure to all districts of Kerala including local villages using KSEB Electric Posts. The Network providers are normal providers like Jio and Kerala Vision. etc. They can provide high-speed fibre internet through a government fibre optic cable for a small rent.
It is a project of the Kerala Government to provide free internet connections to 20 lakh below-poverty-line(BPL) families. Providing free internet access for individuals from low-income backgrounds is a topic that has gained attention in recent months in Kerala. Many initiatives and organizations have been working towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring internet access for everyone. Efforts include subsidized or low-cost internet plans, public Wi-Fi hotspots, community programs, and partnerships with telecommunications providers. Such initiatives aim to empower individuals, expand educational opportunities, and improve access to information and services.
