Liquor sale in Kerala was halted after the COVID 19 pandemic outbreak. Soon after the situation smoothened, The Kerala State Beverages Corporation was considering making an app that will serve as a virtual queue system. A Kochi based app development company Faircode technologies were assigned with the task of making the app.
Upon the launch of the app, the alcohol lovers of Kerala had great expectations of getting liquor after nearly 63 days of lockdown, but the app turned out to be a failed execution. As the services weren’t viable and the app used an SMS based OTP registration, but many of the users didn’t receive the OTP. The app was withdrawn from Google Playstore. The BevQ app is now once again available for download on the playstore. Some users are able to book for liquor, but most of the time the OTP is not received by the user. The app also faced issues while showing the outlets near the submitted Pincode.
Meanwhile, the government is having a positive outlook towards the Bevq app and is considering the relaunch of the app after resolving the technical issues. The world has shifted from being locked down to live with corona, under the social distancing norms, the queues, and rush in front of the Bevco outlets may turn out to be COVID prone zones.
